About Us

– Grumpy, his wife Eileen, and friends and family have been cooking and serving for private groups and festivals for over 14 years. What started as a hobby and only two foods has grown from a part time business into a full time restaurant and catering service that employs more than 25 people. Starting with just a small barrel type cooker fired by charcoal, Grumpy’s now has several commercial wood-pits three of which are portable and can be trailer to offsite locations.

Our food – Vote readers Choice in each of our three years in buisiness!
Timing has been perfect as we moved from charcoal fuel to hickory wood we began slow cooking our pork in true barbecue style years before the Lehigh Valley ever tasted a real “Pulled Pork Sandwich”. With a true love for Southern and Cajun style foods Grumpys has developed a menu through experience that expresses the flavor and cooking styles of New Orleans, Saint Louis, the Carolinas, and the Tex-Mex area. We are barbecuing at low temps for long periods of time spare ribs, pork butts, pork loin, beef brisket, beef chuck, prime rib, chicken wings, chicken quarters, and occasionally seafood. All meat are rubbed with special seasonings then placed in our Hickory wood cooker and smoked to perfection.

From the early days we have cooked a chicken and smoked sausage jambalaya that sold well at biker parties and street festivals. We carried this recipe onto the restaurant menu and have added to the menu other Cajun / Creole specialties such as Crawfish Ettouffee with Blacken’d Catfish, Red Beans and Rice, Gumbos, and more. Most everything is made in-house including our slaw, dressings, garlic mashed potatoes, and other sides. Be sure to download our catering menu and consider us for your next catering  need for home or company.

Beers -  We have added a fantastic selection of Import and Craft Beers that will please the palate of anyone looking for a great beer selection. Along with the better bottled beers are quality tap berrs with at least one changing from time to time. Come on in and see for yourself!

Our Place – Located in an 1840’s tavern in the small town of Mechanicsville (not to be confused with Mechanicsburg) The stone and wood building suits well the roadhouse theme with auto emblems, motorcycle items, and other items of interest filling the walls. Easy to find from route 22, 309, or 78 (we are only 3 miles north of Allentown on Mauch Chunk Road).
